The Environmental Protection Agency needs to conduct further economic analysis of its proposed carbon dioxide standards for power plants after the Government Accountability Office criticized the clarity and accuracy of some analyses, the House Science, Space and Technology Committee said. The committee asked the EPA to model the economic impact of reducing carbon dioxide emissions from power plants by 26 percent by 2020, 30 percent by 2030 and 45 percent by 2040, including the impact on jobs, income, power plant retirements and natural gas supply, in an Aug. 13 letter from Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas).
