The Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking information to help it decide whether to list the greater sage grouse for protection under the Endangered Species Act. The FWS announced Aug. 11 it has opened a formal status review of the ground-dwelling, chicken-sized bird, which has seen its numbers and habitat dwindle in recent years because of energy development, invasive grass species, wildfires, road construction, recreation and other factors.
