The comment period for the proposed rule to clarify federal jurisdiction over U.S. waters will be extended to Nov. 14, the Environmental Protection Agency said Oct. 6. The comment period was scheduled to end Oct. 20. The EPA said the extension of the comment period was partly in response to requests for more time. The agency said the extension also will provide the public with an opportunity to comment on the EPA Science Advisory Board review of the EPA report on the connectivity of streams and wetlands, a report issued to help support the rulemaking. The EPA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continue to meet with stakeholders to explain the proposal, answer questions and engage in discussion, the EPA said.
