A record $5.15 billion Superfund settlement between Anadarko Petroleum Corp. and the U.S. has been approved by a federal court in New York to resolve charges that the company used fraudulent conveyances to avoid cleaning up toxic waste sites around the nation (Tronox, Inc. v. Anadarko Pet. Corp., 2014 BL 317444, S.D.N.Y., No. H-cv-5495, 11/10/14). Judge Katherine B. Forrest of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York gave final approval Nov. 10 for the settlement reached last April. The court said the deal between Anadarko, Tronox Inc. and the U.S. government is "the largest such recovery in American history."
