The Environmental Protection Agency Office of Inspector General plans to begin preliminary research to evaluate superfund sites proposed for EPA's National Priorities List, according to a memorandum.The inspector general's preliminary objective is to determine why some superfund sites that have been proposed for NPL listing have remained in proposed status for many years without being finalized on the NPL or removed from the proposed list. The audit is included in the Office of Inspector General's fiscal year 2013 annual plan, according to the April 4 memo from Assistant Inspector General Carolyn Copper to Mathy Stanislaus, assistant administrator for the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response, and Cynthia Giles, assistant administrator for the Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance.
