The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative announced June 7 that 38.7 million carbon dioxide allowances were sold for $3.21 each at its most recent auction, as allowance prices continued to rise after the program announced a tighter emissions cap earlier in 2013. The clearing price for allowances sold at the June 5 auction was about 14 percent higher than the $2.80 price from RGGI's last auction in March (44 ER 818, 3/22/13). The auction was the second since RGGI announced a 45 percent reduction in the regional carbon dioxide cap and other changes in the program in February (44 ER 341, 2/8/13).
