A member of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission said June 12 that one of the "best ways" to reach the Obama administration's greenhouse gas emissions reductions target is by continuing to support energy efficiency initiatives. FERC Commissioner John Norris said continuing to advance and develop energy efficiency technologies would help reach the Obama administration's goal of reducing the country's greenhouse gas emissions 83 percent by 2050, based on 2005 levels. To meet those goals, emissions would need to drop from 2,100 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in 2011 to 405 million metric tons in 2050, Norris told the 16th annual Congressional Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Expo.
