The Agriculture Department is making available up to $98.6 million for qualified biofuels producers through its Rural Development Bioenergy Program for Advanced Biofuels, according to a notice published June 11 (78 Fed. Reg. 34,975). Of that total, $68.6 million will be available for fiscal year 2013 production, while the remaining $30 million will provide payments for production in prior years. USDA will accept applications for fiscal year 2013 funds until July 11. Qualifying fuels include advanced biofuels produced from crop residue, vegetable oils, animal fats, and various wastes. USDA has made payments to more than 275 eligible producers in 44 states since 2009 as part of the program.
