The District of Columbia's Department of the Environment has proposed regulations to reduce stormwater runoff from newly developed and redeveloped properties into the city's traditional stormwater and combined sewer-stormwater systems as well as into creeks and rivers. To comply with the proposal, newly developed and redeveloped sites that trigger the requirements could install green roofs, rain gardens, permeable pavement, cistern systems, and other green infrastructure practices to retain stormwater on-site, DDOE Stormwater Manager Brian VanWye told BNA June 11.
