Global investment in renewable energy totaled $244 billion in 2012, a 12 percent decrease from the previous year's record investment levels, according to a June 11 report commissioned by the U.N. Environment Program. The report, Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment 2013, said the main issue holding back investment was "instability" in renewable energy policies in developed countries that reduced investor confidence. But while total investment in renewable power and fuels in developed economies dropped 29 percent in 2012, developing economies saw a 19 percent increase in investment to reach $112 billion, its highest-ever total.
