President Obama said June 27 he intends to nominate Ronald J. Binz, a former Colorado utility regulator, to be the next chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Binz would replace Jon Wellinghoff, the current FERC chairman whose terms expires June 30. Wellinghoff, who was appointed to the commission in 2006 and was named chairman by Obama in March 2009, announced his intention in May to resign (44 ER 1590, 5/31/13). Binz would serve a five-year term extending to June 30, 2018. The nomination to the commission requires Senate confirmation.
