The Government Accountability Office said Feb. 7 that federal agencies lack the information to assess the effectiveness of federal efforts to reduce diesel emissions from mobile sources. GAO said few programs collect performance information on their diesel emissions reduction activities. The absence of this information "may limit the ability of agencies to assess the effectiveness of their programs and activities that reduce diesel emissions," the GAO report concluded. The report, Fragmented Federal Programs That Reduce Mobile Source Emissions Could Be Improved, also said effectiveness of federal funding for such activities is "unknown" because not all agencies had performance measures for diesel emission reduction activities.
