The petroleum industry has called on the Environmental Protection Agency to halt the "veritable tsunami" of pending air pollution and climate change regulations targeting refineries.Howard Feldman, the American Petroleum Institute's director of regulatory and scientific affairs, said in a Feb. 10 call with reporters that upcoming EPA rules to curb the amount of sulfur in gasoline, limit greenhouse gas emissions from refineries, and set limits on toxic emissions from industrial boilers could "make a difficult operating environment even more challenging."Feldman said the rules could lead to more refinery closures.
