U.S. collection of "non-bottle" rigid plastics for recycling grew 72 percent in 2010, thanks to improved collection efforts, according to a report released by the American Chemistry Council.More than 826 million pounds of post-consumer plastic were recycled in 2010, up from 479 million pounds a year before, according to the Feb. 8 report. That represents an increase of 157 percent since 2007.Fifty-eight percent of the collected plastic scrap was processed in the United States or Canada, with most of the rest exported to China.
