Existing national energy conservation standards for appliances, industrial equipment, and other products will save consumers and businesses $1.1 trillion in energy costs by 2035 and result in annual emission reductions equivalent to the emissions of 118 coalfired power plants, according to a report released by energy efficiency advocates. The mandatory standards, issued by the Department of Energy, will also by 2035 result in cumulative energy savings of more than 200 quad-double the amount of energy consumed annually by the entire country-and save 470 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, according to The Efficiency Boom: Cashing In on the Savings from Appliance Standards.
