BP West Coast Products LLC allegedly supplied more than 85 million gallons of gasoline to California fuel facilities that the company knew did not meet the state's strict clean fuel standards, according to a lawsuit filed by the state attorney general (California v. BP West Coast Products LLC, Cal. Super. Ct., No. CVIMSC12-567, 3/7/12). Filed March 7 in California Superior Court in Contra Costa County, the complaint alleged that gasoline imported by BP to California contained higher than allowed levels of benzene, aromatic hydrocarbons, or both.
