Seattle-A federal court has ordered the U.S. Forest Service to halt a project using herbicides to control invasive plants in Oregon's Blue Mountains region, saying an environmental impact statement failed to adequately analyze the cumulative impacts of the plan (League of Wilderness Defenders v. USFS, D. Or., No. 3:10-CV-1397, opinion and order 6/29/12). Judge Michael H. Simon of the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon said that while the Forest Service evaluated a reasonable range of alternatives, it "did not adequately evaluate the cumulative impacts that the project might have when considered in conjunction with other actions."
