The Environmental Protection Agency has released data acknowledging the existence of hundreds more ponds and landfills storing coal ash from power plants than were previously reported, according to environmental groups that sought the information. The data made public by the environmental advocates June 27 show there are at least 1,161 coal ash ponds nationwide, 451 more than previously acknowledged by EPA.
