The six states sharing the Chesapeake Bay watershed and a commitment to restore the estuary now have instructions from the Environmental Protection Agency for drafting detailed plans to sharply reduce nutrients and sediment over the next five years. EPA said it compiled the guide after receiving requests from the states for guidance on what the agency expects in its Phase II plans for reducing the pollutants to levels specified in EPA's Chesapeake Bay total maximum daily load mandate.
