LANSING, Mich.-Velsicol Chemical LLC will pay $26.5 million to the city of St. Louis, Mich., to settle a 2007 lawsuit involving alleged contamination of the city's water supply, under terms of a settlement approved by a federal court (City of St. Louis, Mich. v. Velsicol Chemical LLC, E.D. Mich., No. l:07-cv-13683, 3/31/11). The settlement was approved March 31 by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The city is seeking to replace its water supply system, which it says was contaminated by hazardous chemicals from a former chemical plant, now a superfund site.
