The Department of Energy announced April 5 it is awarding $112.5 million over five years to three projects as part of the department's recently launched SunShot initiative, which aims to dramatically reduce the total cost of photovoltaic solar energy. The funds were awarded under the SunShot Advanced Manufacturing Partnerships, a recently formed program to help the solar power industry overcome technical barriers and reduce costs for PV installations, modeled on a similar program that successfully helped grow the semiconductor industry.
