Cleaning up brownfields is more than about remediating contaminated sites-it is about community-building and restoration, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency's solid waste office said April 4. Speaking at the Brownfields 2011 Conference, EPA Assistant Administrator Mathy Stanislaus said cleaning up brownfields can jump-start economic recovery through sustainable development while reducing blight and renewing spirit. Stanislaus heads the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response.
