摘要

The Environmental Protection Agency's ability to identify community water systems with the most serious compliance problems is compromised because states either are failing to report, or are inaccurately reporting, violations of drinking water standards, the Government Accountability Office said in a report released July 19. In 2009, the 14 states that EPA audited did not report or reported inaccurately 26 percent of health-based violations. That amounts to 778 of the violations that EPA determined should have been reported, according to Unreliable State Data Limit EPA's Ability to Target Enforcement Priorities and Communicate Water Systems' Performance.
