The House Natural Resources Committee approved legislation (H.R. 258) July 20 by unanimous consent that would require the White House Office of Management and Budget to prepare an interagency budget for restoration efforts in the Chesapeake Bay watershed and require the Environmental Protection Agency to develop an "adaptive management plan." The Chesapeake Bay Accountability and Recovery Act of 2011 was introduced Jan. 7 by Rep. Bob Wittman (R-Va.) to better monitor and coordinate the efforts of the federal government, six surrounding states, and 1,000 localities to restore the bay.
