A House subcommittee July 14 approved legislation (H.R. 2484) aimed at reducing harmful algal blooms and dead zones that can kill aquatic life and harm the environment. The House Science, Space, and Technology Subcommittee on Energy and Environment approved the bill by voice vote. The measure, introduced July 11 by Subcommittee Chairman Andy Harris (R-Md.), would amend and reauthorize the federal harmful algal bloom research and control program.
