The Environmental Protection Agency has withdrawn five contested components in a wastewater discharge permit issued Jan. 8 to Teck Alaska Inc. for the Red Dog Mine in northwestern Alaska.rnThe permit is a key document that Red Dog operator Teck considers necessary to extend mining operations into the Aqqaluk deposit adjacent to the original Red Dog deposit. The original deposit is expected to be depleted in 2011; extraction from the new deposit is expected to extend the mine's life another 20 years.
