The Food and Drug Administration has opened a new public comment period on its long-delayed proposal to set a bottled water quality standard for a plasticizer that might leach into bottled water from the plastic of the bottles.rnFDA will take comments until June 1 on its proposed standard for di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP), it announced in a notice in the April 1 Federal Register (75 Fed. Reg. 16,363).rnThe DEHP standard may have no effect on current water bottling practices. FDA said it appears that DEHP currently is not used in caps or closures for bottled water in the United States. It also said European Commission regulations block use of DEHP in plastic caps.
