BP has taken a $32.2 billion charge in its second fiscal quarter to cover costs associated with the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. In the company's second fiscal quarter 2010 earnings call from London with analysts July 27, BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg said the charge was taken based on the belief that the company was not "grossly negligent" in the April 20 explosion of the Deepwater Horizon rig and the subsequent catastrophic oil spill.
