A federal district court ruled July 28 that the protected habitat of the Canada lynx population should include larger geographic areas in Montana, Idaho, and Colorado than previously determined by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Alliance for the Wild Rockies v. Interior Department, D. Mont., No. CV 09-73, 7/28/10).rnJudge Donald W. Molloy, of the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana, was asked by the Alliance for the Wild Rockies and other environmental groups to evaluate a Feb. 25, 2009, revised designation of critical habitat for the Canada lynx, which identified approximately 39,000 square miles of habitat in Maine, Minnesota, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and Washington.
