An improvement in Arctic Ocean ice cover in the summer of 2008 probably means that summer sea ice remains vulnerable but will not disappear as quickly as scientists had feared after ice-cover reached a record minimum in 2007, according to research results presented Jan. 22 at the annual Alaska Marine Science Symposium.rnJim Overland, a sea-ice expert with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, presented findings on the 2008 ice cover and its implications for the Arctic Ocean.
