Six hazardous air pollutants "routinely" exceed the Environmental Protection Agency's health standards at most monitoring locations, according to a study in the May edition of Environmental Health Perspectives.rnThe study, "Characterization of the Chronic Risk and Hazard of Hazardous Air Pollutants in the United States Using Ambient Monitoring Data," compared hazardous air pollutant data from 2003 through 2005 with chronic health benchmarks for each set by EPA. The study was conducted by Sonoma Technology Inc., an air quality and meteorological research firm.rn"We compiled ambient monitoring data from hundreds of monitoring locations to create the most complete data set of air toxics measurements," the study said. "The results of this study allow us to compare the national distributions of air toxics ambient concentrations for both cancer and noncancer chronic exposures across the United States."
