The health effects of climate change, greenhouse gases, and other air pollutants are wide-reaching and disproportionately affect women and children in developing countries, speakers at the American Association for the Advancement of Science's Forum on Science and Technology Policy said April 30.rnBecause greenhouse gases and climate change cannot be contained by political borders, public health in countries with relatively low emissions can be severely affected, particularly countries with limited access to medical facilities and energy sources, speakers said. Acting to prevent or slow climate change can have the added benefit of improving health and living conditions in many of those regions, they said.
