摘要

The Department of Energy released its $26.4 billion budget request for fiscal year 2010 on May 7, asking for $5.63 billion for the Office of Environmental Management, but only $197 million for the proposed Yucca Mountain radioactive waste repository, enough for what the energy secretary called "an orderly shutdown" of the project.rnAt a briefing on the department's proposed budget, Energy Secretary Steven Chu said the request for Yucca Mountain-down from the $288 million appropriation in FY 2009 and $386 million in FY 2008-represents only what is required to "take steps toward an orderly shutdown."
