Certain Tennessee counties may use remote air pollution sensing devices as part of their vehicle emissions testing programs under a bill (S.B. 323) signed into law May 5 by Gov. Phil Bre-desen (D).rnExisting state law (Tenn. Code Ann. Section 55-4-130) has required counties with a specified number of registered vehicles and certain air pollution issues to establish a vehicle inspection and maintenance (I&M) program. Motor vehicles in those counties must pass annual emissions tests.
