President Obama's fiscal 2010 budget plan would increase funding for renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, and grid modernization, but decrease spending on nuclear power and fossil fuels, signifying a major shift in energy policy.rnThe Department of Energy's $26.4 billion budget request, outlined during a briefing by Secretary Steven Chu May 7, comes in addition to the $38.7 billion the department received through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Pub. L. No. 111-5). It falls in line with Obama's call to double the amount of renewable energy generated in the country.
