A federal judge in Key West, Fla., sentenced a Utah man to 20 years in prison Oct. 14 for illegally dumping pollutants and for weapons and assault charges after he brandished a weapon at federal and local police officers during his arrest in March, the Environmental Protection Agency announced (United States v. Baggett, S.D. Fla., No. 4:09-CR-10025, sentencing 10/14/09).rnLarkin Baggett, formerly of Salt Lake City and listed as a fugitive on EPA's enforcement office website, was sentenced to five years for felony violations of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, three years for felony violations of the Clean Water Act-the statutory maximum for the environmental charges-and 12 years for the weapons and assault charges.rnAppearing in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Baggett was arrested March 13 in Marathon, Fla. Before his arrest, Baggett had been identified by federal agents as a danger to the community based on threats he had made to acquaintances against EPA officers.
