摘要

Nearly 1 million heavy-duty diesel trucks and buses operating on California roads would have to meet tougher emission standards under a draft rule the California Air Resources Board unveiled Oct. 24.rnIf adopted by the agency's governing board in December, the measure would require owners of diesel trucks to install particulate filters in 2010 and begin retrofitting older vehicles with low-emitting engines in 2012.rnThe draft rule is a key element of the state's strategy to attain federal air quality standards for particulates and ground-level ozone. By 2020, it is projected to reduce statewide emissions of diesel particulates by 43 percent and nitrogen oxides by 23 percent.
