'Ladies and gentlemen, we welcome here the participants of the Sixth International Geography Olympiad', said the announcer at Brisbane's Lions stadium on Friday, 30 June 2006. Then he mentioned the countries of the participants of the International Geography Olympiad country by country: Australia, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, China-Beijing, China-Taipei, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Slovenia and the United Kingdom. This happened in the break of an Australian Football match. After a day of fieldwork, the participants of the 2006 International Geography Olympiad visited the stadium to get an idea what Australian Football is all about. Thirty thousand people attended the match, so the speaker's announcements were good PR for geography.
