Love Canal is important because it led to epochal legislative changes and transformed how Americans viewed hazardous waste. Elizabeth Blum's new analysis of that story is important because it reveals the role of race, class, and gender in environmental politics, as well as howthose processes are obscured by standard historical narratives.rnInformed by archival research, nineteen interviews with Love Canal survivors, and information from FBI files obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, Blum's revisionist history shifts our attention away from Louis Gibbs to include other, less well-known local actors.
