摘要

By 2018, global feed production exceeded 1.1 billion tons for the first time. This is the staple food to feed 998 million cows, 965 million sheep, 770 million pigs, billions of chicken, fish, and other livestock. Presently, animal-derived protein fulfills 40% of total human protein consumption,' mainly relying on farmed animals' supply except for small amounts from primitive hunting and fishing. Feeds are contaminants' carrier from environment to farmed animals, making chemicals that easily undergo food-chain enrichment of great concern. Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are the only strictly regulated chemicals reaching pg g~(-1) level under the EU feed regulation (Dioxin is 6 orders of magnitude lower than heavy metals and mycotoxins), for they are not only persistent and toxic, but could also bioaccumulate (P, B&T) in animals and play a detrimental role at trace levels. No doubt, feed contamination status will determine pollution levels on people's dining table, introduce cumulative effect, and ultimately impact their life-long health.
