Our planet has lost over 190 bird species within the last five centuries and future species extinction will escalate due to global warming.1 Ecologically fragile small islands are more vulnerable; for example, 30% of all the extinct birds so far have come from the Hawaiian Islands. Currently about 10000 bird species occur globally of which 1200 confront the threat of extinction.2 Science has somehow failed to pinpoint the exact time of extinction. By the time scientists realize the problem, it is too late to rescue species from the extinction threshold. So the fauna and flora extinction literature has been often restricted to the last verified observation or specimen collected from the wild.
