摘要

Greco recently critiqued my paper "Variability and uncertainty in life cycle assessment models for greenhouse gas emissions from Canadian oil sands production".1 This critique is based on a misunderstanding of the methods used in the study. Much of Greco's critique refers to a paper by Karras, entitled "Combustion Emissions from Refining Lower Quality Oil: What is the global Warming Potential?". The critique implies that I utilized data or results directly from the Karras study. My study does not use these results. The critique implies that I am in favor of the assumption that oil sands will completely displace lighter hydrocarbon feedstocks in U.S. refineries. I make no such assumption (for the same reasons noted by Greco).
