Evidence that links increasing atmospheric CO_2 concentrations to global climate change has amplified over the years and led to a broad scientific consensus that the climate is changing fast and will have far-reaching impactson our planet (1). To reduce the most severe effects, aglobal warming limit of 2 ℃ or below has been adopted by more than 100 countries worldwide as the guiding principle for mitigation efforts (2).
