摘要

The clean low-level methods employed provide precise, accurate measurements of trace metal levels in Lake Michigan tributaries. As a result, concentrations found in these rivers give us the opportunity for accurate esti- mates of tributary loadings of metals to Lake Michigan. Additionally, the data show dramatic differences in trace metal levels and partitioning among tributaries, reflecting the impact of variations in both watershed geochemistry and anthropogenic inputs. Since partitioning behavior differs among tributaries, accurate estimates of loadings to Lake Michigan will require detailed modeling of individual tributaries to develop relationships of metal loadings to flow, dissolved organic carbon, suspended particulate matter levels, and other factors.
