摘要

The Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden, covering an area of 207 ha, opened in April 2010. Design Croup Valentien has created a unique layout of the garden. A green ring - 4,500 m long, 40 - 200 m wide and with an average height of 6 m - forms the skeleton of the whole complex, which comprises two areas. One is the Plant Conservation Area, with protected Chenshan mountain and native plant species; the other is the Plant Exhibition Centre with 26 specialized gardens containing Eastern China's native plants, and where an atmosphere of a typical small rural watery community south of the Yangtze River has been created. The Green Ring, where there are plants from the same latitude around the world which are presented in their actual sequence, is also called the Five Continents Plants Area. It contains some large functional edifices: a multi-purpose building, a research centre and a greenhouse. Outside the Green Ring, there is a buffer. The overall layout represents the Chinese character for 'garden', which is a place with mountains, stones, water and plants surrounded by a circular wall.
