Due to the increasing pressure of urbanization in the Netherlands, development opportunities have arisen in recent years for spaces under or in the vicinity of large infrastructure clusters like railways and motorways. Such spots often become locations for workshops and companies, like the Amsterdam project Onder de Bogen (under the railway's arch-es).rnAlso in Koog aan de Zaan one had to contend with the inappropriate use of a space under the motorway. And not just any space in this Zaan region village. In the sixties, the village was brutally cut in two by the construction of the A8. And in Koog's psychology, the motorway remained a scar on a pretty face. The A8 cuts right through the village at surface level, then is gradually elevated, rising above the settlement and subsequentlyrnbridging the river Zaan.
