For the 6oth anniversary of the Dutch Zuiderzeemuseum, CROSS.MAX. worked together with Piet Oudolf on a masterplan to extend the museum's garden and the nature reserve that belongs to the museum. The design of the garden, situated on a triangular peninsula surrounded by water on three sides, uses the idea of the Usselmeer's water surface as a huge mirror. CROSS.MAX. is realizing a transition here between reality and irreality, and at the same time a link between the Zuiderzeemuseum and the light reflected on the water surface. 'It's a proposal for a series of shallow reflective pools which create a tonal range of different water conditions, creating a magnificent kaleidoscope of Dutch light', according to Hooftman.The water's edge is shaped by manipulating a raised topography and curling land forms.
