The European Coastal Lagoons Symposium, known as "EuroLag", first made its appearance in Ferrara, Italy, in November 2003. Two years later, the meeting travelled north and was held in Klaipeda, Lithuania, in October 2005. Returning south, it was then held in Naples, Italy, in November 2007 and Montpellier, France, in December 2009. In its fifth meeting, the Symposium has travelled west, and was hosted by the University of Aveiro, Portugal, from the 25th to 29th July 2011.
