摘要

In Wonder, Value and God, Robin Attfield extrapolates on ideas developed throughout his long and productive career as an environmental philosopher. The chapters that comprise the book explore, from a variety of angles, several underlying issues that have persisted in academic debates about environmental ethics for decades. Roughly put, the three huge words put forward in the title indicate the three broad domains of inquiry with which Attfield is chiefly concerned. Wonder: how ought we understand our capacity for wonderment and how is this quintessentialy human characteristic relevant to moral philosophy? Value: how can we develop a coherent theory of value that speaks to the complexity of lifeforms and ecological systems, and how ought such a theory inform our concepts of morality and ethics? God: how and on what terms can theism be compatible with ecological and evolutionary understandings of nature?
