For multistage gear units of position controlled drives I manufacturing machines usually no specified design methods (differing from classical methods) are employed. As a result the dynamic properties of the position controlled drive train are not considered sufficiently. The main reason for this is the interaction of direct position sensors and gear elasticities in the position control loop. This leads to a reduced position control bandwidth of the drives. In the contributed paper the transmission ratio step partitioning is examined and optimized improving the mechanical Eigenfrequency of the drive train, maximizing the velocity gain and reducing the following error of position controlled Drives.
